Race Secretary: Phil

A classic London-to-Brighton transplant at the start of 2025 & a former embedded member of an LGBTQ+ friendly sports club there, I was delighted to find the BHFRs down on Hove Prom on a Wednesday evening.

Fairly new to competitive running, I love the opportunity the club provides to run for whatever purpose & at whatever level - be it the competitions, the fitness gains, the social aspect, or just those Hove Prom’ vibes!

On the race side, I threw myself so hard into the internal races that I’ve come out this year as co-race sec with Paul. Whether it be the opportunity to explore new green spaces & proms on a Saturday morning with our monthly ParkRun of the month, or have a go at competing internally - it’s not just about who’s fastest against each other but rather against yourself to become your best self - what’s not to love!

The club has also enabled me to start exploring external races - from home turf events like seafront 10kms with great supporting crowds; to my first cross country since primary school (no fabricated sick notes needed this time!) all the way up to the London Marathon. I can get nervous about when to turn up, what to wear, even which direction to run if I’m left to my own devices but the hive mind and support of the club washes away many of those insecurities!

I’m really looking forward to the work Paul & I get to do in helping BHFRs feel comfortable running with a stopwatch in event settings - if that’s your vibe!
